Living on the south side of metro Atlanta typically requires a bit of an excersion to find a good pub. When we decide we want a relaxing dinner with some excellent beer choices and an approachable menu, we often find ourselves on a small road trip to Twain's in Decatur.

As a self proclaimed writer, which just means I enjoy writing when the notion hits me, I can't help but love the atmosphere and culture of Twain's Billiards and Tap. The walls are papered with torn out pages of Mark Twain books and I often find myself involved in the brilliant musings and anecdotes that he left for us all to ponder. If conversation goes dead it's as simple as sharing the nearest quotation or thought from the Twain archive posted on the wall. Lets not forget, there is also great beer to be had here.

With a 7 barrel brewhouse and the freedom to brew as he so chooses, Jordan Fleetwood, has put together a nice line-up of in-house beers. There are typically 6 on tap and are all available in pours of 12 ounces, 20 ounces, and pitchers.

Here's what to expect from the Twain's line-up of brews:

  • Heavan for Climate Golden Ale: A nice dry golden with a crisp hop flavor., this is our lightest ale, it is refreshing and finishes clean. 4.7% ABV.
  • Sleepy Conscience ESB: A well rounded medium bodied ale, a session beer for sure. 5.6 % ABV.
  • Mad Happy Pale Ale: Six malts and six hops strike an awesomely drinkable balance in this pale. An excellent example of an American Pale Ale. 5.6% ABV.
  • Jumping Frog I.P.A.: Our Traditional American IPA. Generously Hopped in the kettle and during conditioning. Balanced with a citrusy hop finish. 6.0% ABV
  • Mysterious Stranger Brown Ale: Jordan Brews this American Brown Ale with great results. Chocolate and toast overtones, not too sweet. 5.6% ABV
  • Up The Kriek: Our Saison DuCATUR brewed without spices then conditioned with a sour cherry slurry. Up The Kriek is crisp and peppery with nice sour cherry notes throughout. 5.2% ABV
  • Hannibal Red Ale: Dry hopped and gently and naturally carbonated.
  • Hell for Society Stout: Not your mother’s dry Irish stout. This baby exudes lots of chocolate and coffee from the roasted malts.

Typically you will find one of these fine beers or a unique selection on cask every Wednesday. It lasts until it is gone which is usually by Saturday of the same week.
