Description
Greg Weatherford of the South Atlanta Homebrewers took home 3 awards for his Imperial IPA at the 2007 Peachstate Brew Off. One of the awards was for nothing less than Best of Show in the IPA category. He was happy to share the recipe with us so here it is in all it's award winning glory.
Ingredients
- 13 lb american pale ale
- 1 lb crystal 10l
- 1 lb crystal 40l
- 0.25 lb carafoam
- 1 oz nugget hops
- 3 oz columbus hops
- 3 oz simcoe hops

Batch Size = 5 gals
Anticipated O.G. = 1.080
Anticipated SRM = 9.6
Anticipated IBU = 74.6
Mash crushed grains at 154 degrees F for 90 minutes. Sparge (rinse grains) with 5 gallons of water at 170 degrees F. Boil wort for 75 minutes. At 60 minutes add 1 oz. of nugget hops. At 10 minutes add 1 oz. each of Columbus and Simcoe hops. At flame out add 1 oz. each of Columbus and Simcoe hops. Dry hop with 1 oz. each of Columbus and Simcoe hops.
Notes
At 2007 Covert Hops Competition this beer won #2 as Imperial IPA, #1 as American IPA, and Best of Show #1 as American IPA
